International Competition II + Q&A

NexT Film Festival 2017

The International Competition collects films with diverse styles and themes, leading its audience through many moods or far-off corners of the world... and maybe even beyond that. The selected short films are essay films, musicals, comedies or unique formal experiments, coming from all around Europe, but also from countries like Singapore, Mozambique, India or Vietnam.

The Burden is an animated musical with apocalyptic undertones, divided into four episodes that take place in a supermarket, a long term hotel, a call center and a hamburger restaurant and Green Screen Gringo is a mixtape portrait on modern day Brazil seen through the eyes of the visitor. The title character of Jodilerks Dela Cruz, Employee of the Month is on her last day of duty as a gas station attendant in a long night while the young men in Nyo Vweta Nafta wonder what lies beyond their immediate surroundings, talking on coconut trees, in Maputo market or in a recording studio. Melancholic drone reflects on his wasted existence as a drone out of combat, while flying on autopilot to a couple having sex, a route his previous operator would take to spy on them and the broken Red Light on a small village’s road  provokes a conflict with the passengers and the local law enforcement. The Seaweed in Your Hair offers excerpts from a diary, a pop song, and a poetry reading to the passersby in the streets of Athens and United Interest depicts the background that bids farewell to the alleged blessings of capitalism through a cable car ride in the San Francisco of the early 20th century.

At this moment, we do not have any future performances scheduled.
