The story of the film takes place during the 18th century, in the midst of the Phanariot era. Because his brother-in-arms Sârbu (Amza Pellea) betrays him, Amza (Ion Besoiu), the captain of the outlaws is caught by the authorities and sent to the salt works. Helped by his lover, Aniţa (Marga Barbu), Amza escapes from prison after a few years. Meanwhile his traitor friend becomes the prince's favourite. So the prince entrusts him with the escort of the gold he has to pay the Turks for the prolongation of his ruling the country. After a several adventures, Amza captures the gold and replaces it with stones. In the end he will fight and kill Sârbu then he will go back to his group of outlaws together with Aniţa.
The film premiered in Romania April 20th, 1966.
