Teodorescu comes from a respectable family of the thirties and leads a pointless life. Obsessed with a portrait that a French maestro painted, which he believed to represent his mother, he starts having dreams about the model of the painting and a mysterious gray haired man, over and over again. His imaginary life keeps invading his real one until one day he actually runs into the old man. And he finds more portraits of his dream woman in the old man's house. Then the realness and the delirium interpenetrate so much that when Teodorescu commits suicide, it's hard to say whether it was a dream or it was for real.
The film premiered in Romania September 24th, 1984. The film was selected in competition of the Venice Film Festival in 1985 and also it was Romania’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film of the Oscar Awards in 1985.
