București Monstruos by Animation Worksheep
Animation Worksheep is an educational and professional development project in the field of animation founded in 2008, initially as part of Animest. In 2011, the project became independent; this year, we’re celebrating its 17th edition.
Of the Animation Worksheep’s 250+ alumni, over half work as professional animators in video game or animation studios in Romania and abroad.
This project is aimed at young people in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, aged 18 and over, who are interested in a career in animation. Selected applicants take part in an intensive three-week program during which they experiment with a diverse range of techniques in animation, storytelling and video editing, guided by industry experts, within an environment and workflow inspired by real-life prominent animation studios.
Throughout its many editions, the Animation Worksheep has focused on showing the strong connection between music and animation, which has led to students producing many music videos for famous local bands including Vița de Vie, Robin and the Backstabbers, Coma, and Subcarpați.
The Worksheep’s latest edition resulted in a virtual tour of Monstrous Bucharest, an ambitious project that blends challenging AR technology with digital animation to illustrate some of the Romanian capital’s urban mythology, both imaginary and real.
Animation Worksheep is organized by the ESTE’N’EST Association and coordinated by Vlad Ilicevici (the platform’s founder) and Radu Pop (who manages the trainers’ team).
