Don Rafael Acosta and his friends arrive for dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sénéchal. To their surprise, there is no fire in the fireplace and the table has not been set. The Sénéchals simply wrote down the wrong date in their agenda. The group decides instead to dine at a nearby restaurant, only to discover that its owner has just died and is lying in the next room.
