Through peasant Petre Petre (Ilarion Ciobanu), the main character of the novel ”The Rebellion” by Liviu Rebreanu, the film presents the development of the rebellion of 1907, from its breakout to its suppression by bloodshed.
The film premiered in Romania March 14th, 1966. It won ”Opera Prima” at the 1966 Cannes International Film Festival.
