Year after year, former NexT competitors become the voices of tomorrow's cinema, once they transition to feature film. Supporting as usual this new generation of filmmakers, the NexT Generation program presents the debut films made by former winners of NexT awards.
The film opening the festival, Raw, is the debut feature film of Julia Ducournau, winner of the "Cristian Nemescu" award for the best directing at the 2011 edition of NexT, with the short film Junior. A film of exceptionally elegant visuals, Raw was presented in the Semaine de la Critiquesection of the Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the FIPRESCI prize.
Raw focuses on Justine, a teenager in her first week of vet school, forced to go through a strange freshmen initiation ritual. The ritual escalates into a nightmarish story which includes scenes of cannibalism on the background of a disfunctional family and a chaotic environment.
