Synopsis: 

Gianina, a young Romanian woman, works as a housekeeper for a bourgeois family in Bordeaux. While caring for her employers’ son, her own daughter grows up far away from her, in Romania. As Christmas approaches, the promise of a reunion slowly begins to take shape. 

Radu Jude

Radu Jude is a Romanian film director. He currently works as an associate professor at the Faculty of Film and Theatre of Babeș-Bolyai University. His first short films (Lampa cu căciulă, 2006; Alexandra, 2006) were presented in hundreds of film festivals and won numerous awards. His feature debut The Happiest Girl in the World (2009) was selected in over 50 international film festivals. In 2016, he made his debut as a theatre director with a stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage. The Dead Nation (2017) marked his debut in documentary film. Several of his recent feature films – among them: Aferim! (2015), Scarred Hearts (2016), I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians (2018), or Uppercase Print (2020) – use an experimental film form to confront politically sensitive issues in the national past. His latest film Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021) has earned the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and was hailed by critics as “the movie with the most relentless focus on the way we live now” (J. Hoberman).
