Workshop: FREEDOM IN MOVEMENT with Claudio Cangialosi

Workshop: FREEDOM IN MOVEMENT with Claudio Cangialosi

Difficulty: Advanced

Age recommendation: 16+

Language: English

The workshop is based on an improvisation research of our own body and different ways of moving. How we can find strength, softness, elasticity and power at the same time.

“I inspire myself to the Gaga technique from Ohad Naharin using also ballet vocabulary as a mean of the movement but also in a very organic way of moving. It’s a way of research to use our fantasy and experience the fulfillment of the movement.

I hope to bring more awareness about your own body, awareness of different muscles that we don’t use usually and to build up strength for different kind of movements. “ – Claudio Cangialosi

There will be created dance movement phrases so that the participants can put into action what we research in the class.

Claudio graduated in 2006 from the Scuola di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. He joined the Dresden Semperoper Ballett the same year, where he danced leading roles in classical and contemporary works by renowned choreographers, including William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, and Ohad Naharin. He received critical acclaim, including a 2009 Critics' Choice nomination for "Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer" and multiple awards like the “Apuliarte Prize” (2012) and "Danza & Danza Award" (2013).

In 2016, Claudio joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders, performing principal roles in works by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan, and others. Over his career, he contributed to numerous creations, including The World According to Us, RASA, and Requiem, and danced works by iconic choreographers such as Kenneth MacMillan, Rudolf Nureyev, and Maurice Béjart.

As a choreographer, Claudio has created numerous works, including With(in), Light/Speed, ManKind, The 4 Seasons: Summer, and Palindrome. In 2024, he debuted Siren, an "art inclusive" piece combining dance and painting, exemplifying his innovative "art in art" concept.
