American psych-rock band Holy Wave will perform for the first time in Bucharest this autumn – November 16 at Control Club.
Tickets are now available via Eventbook.ro.
Holy Wave is a band of multi-instrumentalists from El Paso, Texas, USA. Since making a move to Austin in 2008, they have cemented themselves as a unique force in the national and international touring circuit.
After perennial performances at Levitation (Austin Psych Fest) and countless tours and festival appearances in the USA, Europe, Latin America, and Africa, Holy Wave is poised to continue expanding into new spaces and places around the world.
The band has numerous critically-acclaimed LPs and EPs under their belt, with the latest album, Five of Cups, to be released summer 2023.
With their new album, Holy Wave’s lysergic textural palette is immediately apparent in the songs’ woozy synth lead and anti-gravity guitar jangle, but the atypical chord progressions and vocal melody steers the music away from anodyne escapism into a pensive grappling between self-determination and defeatism.
“Austin five-piece Holy Wave is certainly dreamy in a sense, but theirs is the kind of dream that’s more vivid than blurry, more present than passing.” - Consequence of Sound
“They've got the far-off, dreamy vocal wash of the shoegazers, but their guitars and hooks are anything but subtle” - Pitchfork
