CTRL 18 Year Anniversary - Live Concert Pass

On Friday, October 2, Liars and Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys co-headline the opening night of our anniversary. The pairing brings together two projects for which change is part of the method: each record sets its own rules, and the live show tests them again.

On October 3, Opus Kink join the lineup with a live show that has taken them from grassroots venues across the UK and Europe to Serbian abattoirs, Istanbul stadium complexes and impromptu gigs on industrial estates.

LIARS

Liars is the compositional project of Australian composer, producer and performer Angus Andrew. Across ten albums and more than two decades, Andrew has used composition, field recording and improvisation to establish a different sonic language with every release. 

On The Apple Drop, collaborations with Laurence Pike, Cameron Deyell and Mary Pearson Andrew opened the project beyond the solitary process of TFCF. Live, Andrew performs with an ensemble that reshapes the material through instrumentation and improvisation. Pitchfork called Liars “one of the world’s premier art-rock bands.”

LUCY KRUGER & THE LOST BOYS

Formed in 2015 by South African-born singer, songwriter and guitarist Lucy Kruger, the project took on their current form after her move to Berlin in 2018. Alongside Liú Mottes, Jean-Louise Parker, Gidon Carmel and Andreas Bonkowski, Kruger makes what the band calls “art-pop tender-noise.” Her voice can sit close to a whisper, then turn guttural, while the arrangements can begin in near silence and arrive at full force. 

From the Tapes Trilogy and Heaving to A Human Home and 2026’s Pale Bloom, each release has expanded the project’s collaborative language. BrooklynVegan called Kruger “the real deal, with enough attitude and drama for a few bands.”

OPUS KINK

The six-piece British outfit has developed a sound that resists a neat definition: jazz- and country-laced punk, carried by a formidable horn section and Angus Rogers’ ragged, sardonic delivery. Their music bears traces of post-punk and no wave acts such as The Pop Group, The Birthday Party and Lounge Lizards, while drawing from folk, Latin music and Weimar cabaret.

Opus Kink’s concerts have earned a cult reputation for their unpredictability, matched by songs that approach violence, anxiety and emptiness with a dark, absurdist wit. 

The band recorded their debut album, The Sweet Goodbye, with Grammy-winning producer Craig Silvey. Vintage drum machines and a sharper production brought a new shape to their unruly sound, christened by the band, depending on the day, “witch disco” or “chainsaw pop.”
