Un inventator imigrant, camera sa și o revoluție portabilă

În anii 1920, inventatorul imigrant Jacques Bolsey și-a propus să perturbe industria cinematografică timpurie cu o cameră de film pentru masă: iconicul Bolex. Peste 90 de ani mai târziu, regizorul Alyssa Bolsey împarte fragmentele unei arhive familiale uitate pentru a dezvălui povestea epică a străbunicului ei în „Dincolo de Bolex”. Intervievând membrii familiei și cineaști de renume, Alyssa călătorește în Elveția și se adâncește în jurnalul personal al lui Jacques, în rolele de film și în imaginile colectate pentru a înțelege omul și impactul său asupra generațiilor de cineasti.

An Immigrant Inventor, His Camera and a Handheld Revolution

In the 1920s immigrant inventor Jacques Bolsey aimed to disrupt the early film industry with a motion picture camera for the masses: the iconic Bolex. Over 90 years later, filmmaker Alyssa Bolsey pieces together the fragments of a forgotten family archive to reveal the epic story of her great-grandfather in “Beyond the Bolex.” Interviewing family members and renowned filmmakers, Alyssa travels to Switzerland, and delves into Jacques’ personal diary, film reels and collected images in order to understand the man and his impact on generations of filmmakers.
