Sinopsis
Shakespeare este un artist controversat de peste 400 de ani. Uneori este considerat cel mai mare dintotdeauna, alteori este catalogat drept un antisemit și misogin căruia îi plăcea în mod special să conceapă scene violente. Acesta este subiectul pe care „Billy' s Violence”(n.r. spectacol NeedCompany produs înainte de „Billy’s Joy”) l-a abordat pe larg. În secolul al XVIII- lea, oamenii detestau violența și întorsăturile de situație sumbre din tragediile sale. În consecință, acestea au fost rescrise fără rușine. Romeo și Julieta au trăit fericiți până la adânci bătrâneți! Acest lucru a inspirat Needcompany să îl roage pe Victor Afung Lauwers să citească comediile și să vadă ce mai pot însemna ele în vremurile noastre – o epocă a marilor controverse, a polemicilor vulgare, a cancel culture-ului, a rasismului structural, a schimbărilor climatice, a războiului. La ce se mai poate râde? Este umorul arma lașului sau o formă de activism?

Sinopsis
Shakespeare has been a controversial artist for over 400 years. Sometimes he is the greatest ever, other times he is dismissed as an anti-Semitic misogynist who especially got a kick out of conceiving violent scenes. That's what Billy's Violence covered extensively. In the eighteenth century, people detested the violence and dark twists in his tragedies. Consequently, these were shamelessly rewritten. Romeo and Juliet lived happily ever after! This inspired Needcompany to ask Victor Afung Lauwers to read the comedies and see what they can still mean in our time - a time of great controversies, vulgar polemics, cancel culture, structural racism, climate change, war. What is there left to laugh at? Is humour the coward's weapon or a form of activism?
