SYNOPSIS:

The death bell tolls three times: I have to get away. The salty water soaks my clothes. It stings my skin, the scratches on it. I stand submerged to my waist in the sea, the seagulls are flying dangerously low. Behind me I hear a screech, the family shelter calling its stray child back. I'm not turning around. Above me the Moon sneers, "you won't dare anyway" – it whispers in my ear. I'm sinking up to my neck.

Cholnoky Jenő (1870–1950) was a university professor, traveler, and one of the leading geographers of the 20th century. Our monodrama freely interprets his writings, in which he speaks about his personal life and travels. This is not a biographical performance: neither on a human nor on a theatrical level did we aim to accurately recreate the life and person of Cholnoky Jenő on stage! What we sought were answers to how, as people in our twenties, we can relate to him and to the experiences he gathered in the world, and how we can freely associate around them. The postdramatic nature of the performance asks something similar of the audience: venture boldly!
