In 1997, a group of artists and intellectuals took the initiative to found in Cluj an independent center of contemporary art and thought. The wish became a reality in the space of the former synagogue on the bank of Someș, Poale Tzedek, which became Tranzit House. Tranzit Foundation promotes alternative models of approaching cultural diversity, focusing on the themes of co-operation and interaction between different cultural and ethnic groups and the integration of different marginalized groups.
