TIFF.22 Masterclass: Geoffrey Rush, Timothy Spall & Oliver Stone


Actors Timothy SpallGeoffrey Rush and Darko Perić, directors Oliver Stone and Michel Franco and producer Čedomir Kolar are part of the masterclasses program at Transilvania IFF.22. The events are open to the public subject to availability and accredited guests and press will have priority access. The meetings take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Timothy Spall in conversation with Mihai Chirilov

Known to younger generations for his role as the wizard Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter fantasy franchise, Timothy Spall has often collaborated with director Mike Leigh, winning the best male performance award at the Cannes Film Festival for Mr. Turner (2014). His latest film, Nordic Comfort, opens the 22nd edition of Transilvania IFF.

Timothy Spall will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Cluj-Napoca.

Directing Masterclass with Michel Franco

Moderator: Ionuț Mareș

Mexican director Michel Franco has been awarded at Cannes for three of his dramas: After Lucia (2012), Chronic (2015) and April's Daughter (2017). Franco is part of the Transilvania IFF.22 jury, and his latest film, Sundown (2021) will be screened in the festival.

Acting masterclass with Geoffrey Rush

For actors, students and industry professionals

Moderator: Laura Musat

Geoffrey Rush is one of only 24 actors (including Jeremy Irons and Al Pacino) who can boast the ultimate acting accolade, the so-called Triple Crown of Acting - the Academy Award for his role as the pianist in Shine (dir. Scott Hicks, 1996), the Emmy Award for his performance as the protagonist in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (dir. Stephen Hopkins, 2004) and the Tony Award for his role as Monarch Berenger I in Eugen Ionescu's absurdist play Exit The King.

Geoffrey Rush will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at TIFF.22.

Production Masterclass with Čedomir Kolar

Croatian producer Čedomir Kolar is the winner of the Silver Leopard and the Don Quixote Award at the Locarno International Film Festival for the drama The Adopted Son (d. Aktan Arym Kubat, 1998). Kolar has produced over 30 feature films, including Foxtrot (dir. Samuel Maoz, 2017), The Light Thief ( dir. Aktan Arym Kubat, 2010) and No Man's Land (dir. Danis Tanovic, 2001), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Oliver Stone in conversation with Mihai Chirilov

Oliver Stone has won three Academy Awards, two for directing Platoon (1986) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and one for screenplay for Midnight Express (r. Alan Parker, 1979). A polarizing figure, Stone established himself as one of Hollywood's most important directors of the 1980s and 1990s, who "presented American history in a uniquely provocative and entertaining way" (David Parkinson, British Film Institute).

Oliver Stone will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at TIFF.22.

InspiraTIFF with Darko Perić

Darko Perić began his career in 2010, when he was cast in the Spanish series Crematorio produced by Canal+. In 2015 he starred in the film A Perfect Day, alongside Benicio del Toro and Tim Robbins. He became known worldwide for his role in Netflix's La Casa Del Papel, which was named Best Drama Series at the 2018 Emmy Awards. 

Darko Perić is a member of the jury of the TIFF.22 Official Competition.
