In this meeting, Dr. Cosima Rughiniș proposes a discussion on the ”seen, but unnoticed” lessons concerning masculinity and femininity, starting from the way in which gender is illustrated through billboard advertising and advertising posters, as well as through statues.
Although omnipresent, we pay too little attention to commercials. We are surrounded by numerous printed advertising materials which invite us to buy all sorts of things, arousing this need in us by presenting ideal scenes of life.
Yet what do we discover when we start analyzing these commercials? What are the most important messages they transmit and how can they vary according to the industry or the brand they represent?
Cosima Rughiniș is a teacher at the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, and the director of the Sociology Doctoral School. Her research interests include gender representations, public knowledge, and the skepticism towards science.
