Pentru Nelly, o fată de 13 ani, faptul că urmează să-și petreacă vacanța în Transilvania, împreună cu părinții, nu este un motiv de laudă în fața prietenilor săi. Ca situația să se înrăutățească și mai mult, ea află, odată cu ajungerea în Sibiu, că trebuie să se mute acolo în octombrie, împreună cu familia. Ea este de-a dreptul furioasă că tatăl ei, Robert, un inginer care urmează să construiască mori de vânt în Transilvania, nu i-a spus dinainte că se vor muta. Plină de furie, Nelly fuge de acasă și pornește în explorarea orașului necunoscut, fără a avea habar că este urmărită de doi tâlhari. Romii Hokus și Iancu sunt puși de către afaceristul german, Wagner, să o răpească pe fată. Lui Wagner îi e teamă că morile de vânt îi pot pune în pericol uriașul proiect de construire a unui baraj și vrea, în acest fel, să-l sperie pe Robert. Nelly va avea alte lucruri de care să se îngrijoreze, înainte de a apuca să fie răpită. Doi copii romi îi fură portofelul și la scurt timp Hokus și Iancu reușesc să o răpească și o să o ducă într-un sat de romi. Acolo Nelly îi intâlnește pe cei doi hoți, frații Roxana și Tibi, cu care se împrietenește. O vor ajuta aceștia să evadeze?
13-year-old Nelly cannot really impress her friends by telling them she will spend her holidays together with her parents in Transylvania. To make matters worse, at their arrival in the Romanian city of Sibiu she learns that the family will move there in October. She is absolutely furious because her father Robert, an engineer who will build windmills in Transylvania, did not tell her about this before. Inflamed with rage, Nelly runs off and explores the alien city on her own. She has no idea that she is pursued by two gangsters. The Roma Hokus and Iancu are to kidnap the girl on behalf of the German entrepreneur Wagner. Unscrupulous Wagner is afraid the wind turbines might endanger his huge dam project, and he therefore wants to intimidate Robert. But first Nelly has other things to worry about. Two Roma children steal her wallet, and shortly thereafter Hokus and Iancu manage to abduct her to a Roma village. There Nelly meets the two thieves, the siblings Roxana and Tibi, again and befriends them. Will they help her escape?
